I decided to install the EDIS components as the first part of the conversion.  This seemed to be the simpler lower risk portion of the conversion.  My goal was to get the EDIS running under MegaSquirt control using a simple RPM based advance curve the same as the mechanical advance distributor I was replacing.

The engine specific EDIS components were designed and fabricated by E21parts which is unfortunately no longer in business.  I worked with the owner of E21parts to create this setup.  It consists of a modified cast crankshaft pulley with the 36-1 toothed wheel installed on it, a VR sensor mounting bracket, a coil pack mount that installs in the stock distributor location, and a set of high performance plug wires.

Here is a view of the components that were provided by E21parts

Some close ups of the trigger wheel, coil pack mount, and VR sensor bracket.

The coil pack mount is built on top of the distributor plug.  This will allow the coil pack to mount in the stock distributor location.

The VR sensor bracket mounts to the lower two mounting bolts on the water pump and one of the lower timing cover bolts.  The sensor is adjustable in and out from the trigger wheel by loosening the two cap screws below the sensor and sliding it in and out.  The sensor can be moved up and down relative to the trigger wheel by loosening the two cap screws on the back of the bracket.  There is about +/- 5 degrees of adjustment in the bracket.

VR sensor fabricated and test fit on a spare engine recently removed from a wrecked vehicle at E21 Parts.

Here is the coil pack mounted on my engine.  The coil pack mounts to the stock distributor mount.  This places the coil pack in the OEM distributor location on the engine.  The coolant temp sensor can also be seen in this picture.
