Intake Plenum | |

I wanted a common air intake plenum to use with my ITBs. I did not
want to use multiple air filters because they can cause problems with
air flow balance between the ITBs. TWM sells a generic air box for use with their ITBs. I purchased this when I got my TWM ITBs knowing it would need to be modified to clear the brake booster on the E21. I installed the base of the air box along with the short air horns. Then I started to figure out how much of the air box needed to be cut out to clear the brake booster.
Once the cutout was made, I inserted a block of foam and started shaping it. I attempted to get the shape as close to the brake booster as possible but still allow removal. This was done to maximize the clearance between the #4 air horn and the inside of the air box.
Then I just needed to lay-up a couple layers of fiberglass cloth and resin over the foam. I let it cure over night and then dissolved the foam with some acetone.
I then hung a K&N cone filter off the air plenum using an elbow.
